High-current inverter is fully upgraded to start the era of photovoltaic 6.0

Since 2019, high-power solar PV modules based on large-size silicon wafers have become the mainstream products in the photovoltaic industry. Major PV module players have launched solar PV modules based on large wafer sizes of 182mm and 210mm. The increased size of the silicon wafer directly leads to higher current of modules.

According to the CPIA, in 2020, the percentage of 156.75mm silicon wafers has declined, while that of the 158.75mm and 166mm silicon wafers has increased significantly; by 2021, the proportion of 166mm silicon wafers will exceed 60%. At the same time, from 2020 to 2025, the proportion of 182 and 210mm silicon wafers will gradually increase. The rising module output requires a corresponding increase in voltage and current, and inverter manufacturers need to carry out research into compatible products.

The key to whether the inverter can be compatible with the higher current of the module lies in three areas including the maximum system voltage, the maximum power operating current Impp, and the short-circuit current Isc. The maximum system voltage determines the maximum voltage range that the module/inverter can work. The maximum power operating current Impp means the maximum current corresponding to the module/inverter for maximum power tracking; the short circuit current Isc represents the limit current of the inverter string input. The higher power of the module makes the higher Impp and Isc, and the higher requirements for the inverter input capability.

The maximum input current of the inverter to 15A will become mainstream soon. Whether it is a 500W+ module based on 210mm wafer, or a larger power module based on 182mm wafer, the upgraded inverter is the best partner for high-power and bi-facial modules and ensures high quality and stability of the alternating current that can be transmitted to the grid. It is designed to meet the customers’ desire and demand for further reducing the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) and maximizing the economic value of PV systems for renewable energy generation.

More current, more performance

The new STT 4~25KTL-P series inverter is upgraded from STT 4~25KTL. Through innovative hardware design and software algorithm optimization, the string input current is fully upgraded to 15A with an unaltered size. Also we upgrade the MPP voltage range to 160~1000V, to match the parameters of the larger size modules. The upgraded STT 4~25KTL-P series is workable with the module that the output current at about 15A.

4 → 3 , save cost and get more possibility

The STT 50-125KTL series of three-phase grid-connected inverters upgrade the original maximum access group string current from 13 A to 17 A, compatible with 600 W + high-power modules by developing innovative MPPT parallel functions. With MPPT in parallel, only 3 PV panels are access to every 4 PV input port, which help reduce the wiring cost by 25%.
